Add a Table of Contents

Entries are listed with dotted leaders and page numbers, and each line is a working link to the page it names. Because the contents pages go in front, everything they point at moves down — so the page numbers shown are adjusted to match, rather than quietly pointing a page early. The list uses the same format as Add Bookmarks, so one description of your document can drive both the sidebar outline and the printed contents.

Are the entries clickable?

Yes. Each line is a link annotation pointing at the page it names.

Do the page numbers account for the contents page itself?

By default yes. You can turn that off if your numbering already allows for it.

Can I nest sections?

Yes. Child entries are indented and set in a lighter weight.
