How it works
Bookmarks are the outline a PDF reader shows in its sidebar, letting someone jump straight to a section instead of scrolling. Entries can be nested, so a report can have chapters with sub-sections beneath them. Nested branches start collapsed, which is what readers expect from a long document.

- Is this the same as a table of contents?
- No. Bookmarks live in the reader's sidebar. A table of contents is a printed page inside the document.
- Can I nest sections?
- Yes, to any depth. Each entry can have children.
- Do bookmarks survive merging?
- Not yet. Merging does not carry outlines across.
