Redact a PDF

Drawing a black box over text in most PDF editors leaves the text sitting underneath, where anyone can select and copy it. This tool covers the area and then converts the affected pages to images, so the original content is genuinely gone from the file. The trade-off is stated plainly: those pages stop being searchable and screen readers can no longer read them. Only the pages you redact are converted; the rest of the document keeps its text.

Can the hidden text be recovered?

No. The affected pages are rebuilt as images, so what was underneath is not in the file at all.

Why does the page stop being selectable?

Because that is what makes the redaction real. A method that kept the text layer would keep the text.

Does it find sensitive information for me?

No. It removes what is under the boxes you draw. The same information elsewhere in the document is untouched.
